When Nelson Leatherby escapes a claustrophobic marriage in Norwalk and seeks to start a new life in Savannah, he has no idea of the mayhem that awaits him. Stoic and good natured, but with a weakness for blundering into life-threatening situations, Leatherby is quickly surrounded by shallow cheats, vicious killers, eccentric buffoons-and remarkable new friends. His longing for a singularly beautiful woman, Dominique Panadero, leads Leatherby on a hasty trip to Maduro's Venezuela, dashing from the streets of Caracas to the dusty cattle ranches of Los Llanos, all while being pursued by rival human-trafficking cartels. In the process, he discovers personal resources that he never imagined possessing.Although packed with comic situations, the narrative touches on the alarming prevalence of human trafficking, a scourge which has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, Europe and Asia. With over twenty million victims worldwide, modern-day slavery surpasses both weapons and drug trading as an international menace.

Vaughan Wiles was born in Southern Rhodesia and raised in South Africa. No blame can be attached to the fine institutions that struggled to educate him-Highbury, Michaelhouse and Natal University. He travels extensively as a marketing specialist, based in Johannesburg, London and New York, and has a deep affection for the several countries that he has called home. The Caracas Girl is his second novel, continuing the adventures of Nelson Leatherby and his penchant for surrounding himself with eccentric people, straying into whacky and precarious situations, but emerging victorious and deeply in love. Wiles suffers from a hopeless affection for the internal combustion engine, whether installed in machines with wings or in those with wheels. He enjoys the company of amusing, broad-minded people with fresh opinions. He is still married, despite the selfish habit of shutting his study door and indulging himself for hours in his writing. He is currently working on his third novel in the Leatherby series.
