Art history rarely tells the whole story. For centuries, women artists have been erased, minimized, or reduced to muses. The Colors of Women Artists restores them to the center of the canvas through an original and surprising lens: color. Architect, teacher, and art lover Elisabetta Macci leads readers on a journey through ten colors-red, yellow, blue, light blue, green, orange, purple, white, black, and brown-each associated with powerful works by women across centuries and continents. From Marina Abramovic's blazing red performance at MoMA to Artemisia Gentileschi's fierce biblical heroines, from Plautilla Nelli's monumental Last Supper to Yayoi Kusama's hypnotic yellow pumpkins, from Hilma af Klint's visionary abstractions to Berthe Morisot's shimmering blues, this book reveals a vibrant, alternative history of art. Blending biography, storytelling, and accessible art analysis, Macci shows how these women challenged prejudice, reinvented visual language, and transformed pain, joy, and resistance into color. Perfect for art lovers, students, educators, and anyone curious about what's been missing from the museum walls, The Colors of Women Artists invites us to see the full spectrum of art-at last including all of its protagonists.

Macciò, Elisabetta: - I was born on March 2, 1973, a jaundiced baby the color of a lemon, arriving one week before the Sanremo Music Festival final that my mother ended up missing from her hospital bed. I grew up a quiet, self-conscious child with a rich inner world, pouring my thoughts and passions into drawing and invented stories. School was always central to me: I was a diligent student and, from a very young age, I dreamed of becoming a teacher-a dream that came true.I graduated in Architecture from the University of Genoa in 1999 and initially worked with a few design studios, then in 2007 devoted myself entirely to teaching middle school. Books are another great passion of mine. While serving on the town council in my small village, Capriata d'Orba (Piedmont), I helped open a library and contributed to a study on local building types and traditions. I am married, have a daughter, and share my days with two beloved dogs, Cookie and Minu. Inspired by my lessons and my students' curiosity, in 2023 I decided to write what I hope will be the first in a series of simple, engaging essays on art-because you're never too old to make big dreams come true.
