The Custodian is a novel written by Archibald Eyre and published in 1904. The story is set in England and revolves around the life of a young man named John Hare, who is employed as a custodian at a large estate. John is a hardworking and honest man who takes his duties very seriously, but he is also a dreamer who longs for something more in life.As John goes about his daily routine, he becomes increasingly drawn to the world of the wealthy elite who inhabit the estate. Despite his protests of innocence, John is arrested and thrown into jail. It is only through the intervention of Lady Mary and her father that John is eventually cleared of the charges and allowed to resume his position as custodian.Throughout the novel, Eyre explores themes of class, love, and justice, painting a vivid portrait of life in early 20th century England.
