This epic book is the result of more than 30 years of research by world renowned boxing historian Barry J. Hugman, who has scoured libraries, newspapers and relevant institutions across several countries to pull together the most complete history of world championship boxing. Invaluable assistance on early British material has been provided by Harold Alderman MBE. From the 1870s to October 2016 all newly discovered and known world championship bouts, from mini fly to bantamweight, have been chronologically listed, together with the result and brief fight summary and, where known, the venues, scorecards and referees are provided too. It's a story of amazing fights, questionable decisions, riots, police intervention, scandals, and bravery, featuring countless legends of the ring. This book forms one part of a unique 4-volume series which together, combining in excess of an incredible one-and-a-quarter million words, presents the most comprehensive history of world championship boxing ever published!

Barry J Hugman is a sports author/statistician who was born in Hampstead Garden Suburb in 1941 and educated at Clarks College, Finchley. Having spent ten years concentrating on a business career he decided to produce what was called at the time the biggest job in football statistics - collating and presenting the records of all men who had played in the English Leagues since 1946. He has since gone on to publish many other works, a large number of which are recognised by the authorities as definitive sources in their field. He also helped to devise and set up the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) British Boxing Awards, which started in 1984, and launched the Boxing Monthly magazine in 1989. In 2011 he received the British Boxing Board of Control Exceptional Award for services to the sport of British professional boxing and has also been nominated by the BBBoC for the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York. Having first donned gloves at the age of ten and boxing as an amateur on and off for 11 years he knew his way around the ring, winning more than he lost and being selected to participate in the 1961 ABA Championships after just two senior contests. He also feels that the sport of boxing helped him greatly, increasing his drive, confidence and self motivation. In short if you can come through that unscathed no task is too difficult.
