The Destruction of Da Derga's Hostel is a book written by Whitely Stokes that tells the story of a legendary Irish king named Conaire Mor. The book is a translation of an ancient Irish text called ""Togail Bruidne Da Derga"" which recounts the events leading up to Conaire's downfall.The story begins with Conaire's rise to power and his decision to build a great hostel to accommodate his warriors and guests. The hostel, known as Da Derga's Hostel, becomes a place of refuge and celebration for many people, but it also attracts the attention of Conaire's enemies.As the story unfolds, Conaire's enemies plot against him and eventually succeed in destroying the hostel and killing many of his followers. Conaire himself meets a tragic end, fulfilling a prophecy that he would die if he ever broke certain taboos.The book provides a fascinating insight into ancient Irish culture and mythology, and is considered a classic of Irish literature. Stokes' translation is highly regarded for its accuracy and its ability to capture the poetic beauty of the original text.So in this wise Conaire fared forth; and on each of the four roads whereby men go to Tara there were three kings awaiting him, and they had raiment for him, since it had been foretold that he would come stark-naked. Then he was seen from the road on which his fosterers were, and they put royal raiment about him, and placed him in a chariot, and he bound his pledges.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
