About The Book

Johanna Weseley is alone, almost penniless and in a city she doesn't love; furthermore there is that continuous and annoying presence of a somewhat shady man woosing her. Johanna, however, is an enterprising young woman, with a solid culture of ancient languages and art, and she does not let herself be discouraged by something so trivial. She will look for a respectable job and leave London, that's her plan.
At the same time, in Derbyshire, the gruff Adrian Carlton, 8th Duke of Ashton, is renowned for his pedantry and related short temper, a short temper which led him to fire a fair number of secretaries in just a few months. His irritability, at the time of the story, is due to his mother's insistence on finding a wife that he doesn't want, even if women certainly don't leave him indifferent.
"Galeotto was the announcement to the employment office" the Supreme Poet would say (for those who don't know or recall, I'm talking about Dante...) and, in fact, that's exactly what happens in my story.
Johanna is happy to have found the ideal job for her, she will have to deal with arranging the library of classics and ancient finds of an irascible Duke, obviating the small and insignificant detail that the search for a secretary is aimed at a Man.
But who cares, she's an enterprising girl and so she turns into her... brother!
In one fell swoop the girl gets rid of (but is it true?) the annoying suitor and she finds a well-paid job.
Plans are made to be upset, so what will happen when our reckless heroine settles in Ashton Hall is all to be discovered: among gaffes, sudden blushes, scheming mothers and escapes into the storm: what will happen to the orphan Johanna Weseley and the Duke of Ashton?
