leta iris, author of when summer fades to fall, reveals her own experience of girlhood within her second collection, the fruits of her bittersweet sadness, left to rot. this piece presses on the aching bruise within her melancholy and allows it to bleed deep colors of truth. this visceral collection explores the feminine bite, each diary-like entry a tribute to the inner child. the three components of the book, "MADNESS," "HUNGER," & "EARTH," feature a rawness that many fear to reveal. an ode to brokenness, a desire to be seen and devoured, and a spiritual calling to become one with nature. if sylvia plath sings to each aching fragment of your soul, this collection is yearning to cradle your younger self and caress your cosmic heart.
Iris, Leta: - Leta Iris (she/they) is a bisexual, two-spirited midwestern poet with a BA in English + a concentration in Creative Nonfiction and a minor in Creative Writing. Iris often writes about her wrestle with whatever challenges wellness: spiritual, emotional, physical, and psychological. She is the jack of all trades, master of none- with writing that dapples in Poetry, Creative-Nonfiction, Memoir, Lyricism, Hybrid work, grazing the realm of fiction. Hoping to dwell there a bit longer, as a buffer against the real world. Leta often describes herself as a feral, midwestern poetess, a writer of all genres, poet of many muses- relationally and beyond. Realms of foreign, alien concepts such as femininity, soul expression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, POTS... alongside other things that life throws at a twenty-something, Neuro-Spicy gal raised in the vacant prairie of Southeastern Nebraska. Their writing sways between introspective consciousness writing and body work, singing to the Sylvia Plath in your soul. (Iris even has a "soul" tattoo, among other ink & pokes & siiiick jewelry pieces)She is the author of two poetry collections, "When Summer Fades to Fall" and "The Fruits of Her Bittersweet Sadness, Left to Rot." In July of 2026, Iris will begin her MFA in Writing, with a focus in Poetry. She is published in South Broadway Press, 13th Floor Magazine, and has pieces featured in the Experiences of Femininity exhibit at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Leta takes pride in her Cherokee/Apache heritage, with her Indigenous name meaning "cheerful spirit." She enjoys caffeine, thrifting trinkets and collecting purses. You can usually find her beneath a fuzzy blanket, book in hand, while cuddled up with her Blue-Heeler Beagle mix, Buffy. Where to find her: among the beetles, resting in tangled flowers.
