The General History of China V1, written by the French Jesuit missionary and historian Jean-Baptiste Du Halde and first published in 1741, is a comprehensive account of Chinese history, culture, and society. The book covers the period from the legendary Xia dynasty (c. 2100 BCE) to the reign of the Yongzheng Emperor (r. 1722-1735) of the Qing dynasty, which Du Halde witnessed firsthand during his time in China.
