This compilation of the Charles and Lottie Fetterolf Family of Pennsylvania traces their origins back to Germany and Wales. Steve and Joan Troutman have compiled 194 pages of family history, genealogy, photographs and ephemera from their research and travels. This book includes substantial information about the Fetterolf, Hodge, Reiner, Marsh, Kidson and Skelding families. It connects many of the families in the Mahantango Valley of Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties in Pennsylvania to Welsh coal mining and iron making towns and rural German villages.

Steve Troutman was born in 1952, into a family with many living grandparents, all with roots in the Mahantongo Valley, Pa. He developed an interest in genealogy at an early age due to his parents' interest in family history. Steve studied geology at Franklin and Marshall College, but did not pursue a career in this field. Instead, he continued working for the family business, Troutman Bros. Inc. of Klingerstown, Pa. Joan (Masser) Troutman's family roots are deep in the soil as she grew up on a potato farm in the Mahantongo Valley. She continued her education at Susquehanna University and graduated in 1974 with a degree in accounting. The Charles Fetterolf family was rather uninformed about their Hodge connection, as her mother knew very little about her father's parents. Joan was thrilled as new found record were brought to light by researchers in Wales. Steve and Joan enjoyed their trip to Wales researching the Hodge family. It was spiritual in nature. They have been fortunate to travel to Germany several times to see first-hand where the Fetterolfs originated. This is a beautiful area resembling the Mahantongo Valley. Joan and Steve have written other family histories including Trautman/Troutman Family History, Vol. I and II and The Origin and History of the Jacob Masser Family of Line Mountain, Pa. They have contributed to The Klingerstown Bi-Centenial Album (1807-2007) and The Bi-Centennial Album (1803-2003) A Tribute to Jacob's (Howerter's) Union Church of Upper Mahanoy Twp., Northumberland County, Pa. Other smaller publications they completed include Tulpehocken Trail Traces and The Trevorton, Mahanoy and Susquehanna Railroad and the Susquehanna River Bridge between Herndon and Port Trevorton. The Troutmans live and work in the heart of the Mahantongo Valley. They enjoy listening to and sharing historical information.
