Gwendolyn Maria Robinson was the seventh child born to Nathaniel and Bernice Robinson in Mobile, Alabama. She realized early in life that she had a knack for telling the most fascinating stories. At five years old she acted in plays and continued to do so throughout most of her school years. While attending college at California State University, Long Beach, Gwen heard of an audition taking place for the Pulitzer Prize winning play, "No Place To Be Somebody." She landed the part of Evie, and has performed in many other award winning plays such as, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf." Gwen discovered what is probably her strongest gift. "I now realize that my ability to perform stemmed from unction to write. She says simply, "I now know, in the very depths of my soul, what I was born to do!"
