The Great Tang Records on the Western Regions is a geographical and historical work dictated by Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty and compiled by his disciple Bianji. It was completed in the twentieth year of the Zhenguan reign (646 CE).

The book consists of twelve volumes, totaling over 100,000 characters. It records the conditions of 138 countries, regions, and city-states that Xuanzang personally visited or heard about during his journey from Chang'an through the Western Regions to India. Covering a wide range of topics and rich in content, this work is a monumental masterpiece of geography and history in ancient China.

《大唐西域记》是由唐代玄奘口述、辩机编次的地理史籍，成书于唐贞观二十年(646年)。全书十二卷，共十余万字。记载玄奘从长安出发，游历西域和印度途中亲身经历和传闻得知的138个国家及地区、城邦的情况。范围广泛,内容丰富，是我国古代一部地理学、历史学巨著。

The twelve-volume Great Tang Records on the Western Regions, written by Xuanzang and Bianji of the Tang Dynasty, describes the geography, society, history, and religious beliefs of more than 130 countries, city-states, and regions in Central and South Asia that the eminent monk Xuanzang visited or heard about during his pilgrimage to India. Preserving a wealth of precious historical materials on society, religion, and culture in 7th-century Central and South Asia, it remains an essential document for the study of ancient history, religious beliefs, and Sino-foreign relations of that region. The annotator and translator Dong Zhiqiao, drawing fully upon previous scholarship, has produced concise and accurate annotations along with clear and fluent vernacular translations, making this an excellent popular edition for readers seeking to understand this classic work.
