The Greatest Prophet unwraps Daniel's inspired record recounting major events in his long life as prime minister of the most splendid empires of antiquity. Opening in the midst of war, the book of Daniel reveals the story of everyone's life. We are all in a struggle as to what spiritual power will rule our lives, making the heart the greatest battlefield on earth. Along with Moses and Solomon, Daniel was one of the most learned man in the Old Testament. The reader will learn how Daniel was called, thoroughly trained, matured, and blessed by God for his vital role in history. From teenager to an old man at it this book's conclusion, never once did his faith in God waver. The author relays how events of Daniel's personal life are closely related to and interwoven with his prophecies. His prophetic vision magnifies the principles illustrated by his personal experiences revealing how his prophecies have deeply personal applications. This book contains two parts, the first consists of stories of the Hebrews in Babylonian captivity. The second, more directly apocalyptic in form, consists of visions predicting future events simplifying biblical prophecy and apocalyptic language and revealing a compelling record of God's wisdom and sovereignty. Daniel personally endured the kind of persecution and opposition to the worship of God that he predicts the world will experience in the end. When Daniel prophesied there would be "a time of trouble such as never was," it recalls his terrifying ordeal in the lions' den and that of his friends in the fiery furnace. When he confidently predicted that God's "people shall be delivered," he knew from personal experience of God's awesome power to save. God has impressive credentials. The stories of Daniel revolve around Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, and God. Daniel's life illustrates the trials and the benefits of a life lived in relationship with God. Nebuchadnezzar's life illustrates the human tendency to go it alone, to find life in achievement, popularity, and riches. But his life also illustrates that no human being, no matter how troubled, arrogant, or abusive, is exempt from God's care and active concern. The hero of these narratives is not Daniel or Nebuchadnezzar. It is God. He is the One in control. He foils the oppressor and takes care of His own. He answers our questions, provides strength for our weaknesses, forgiveness for our shortcomings, and acceptance in our doubts, fears, and struggles. He is everything we need.
