This is a novel. The characters are fictional. The Grounding Crew - Frostine, Boulder, Zippy, Sage, Tang, Pixel, Hummy, Stillwater, and Fidget - are original creations, invented to embody nine sensory regulation principles in forms that could be loved.

The science is not fictional.

Every technique the Crew teaches in this story is real, documented, and supported by peer-reviewed research in neuroscience, occupational therapy, psychology, and affective science. The diving reflex is real. The vestibular system's regulatory function is real. The olfactory pathway's direct access to the limbic system is real. The way deep pressure communicates safety to the brainstem is real. All of it has been studied, replicated, and published. The references are in the back of this book.

Maya and Daniel are fictional. Their experiences are not. Sensory processing differences, anxiety, autism, panic attacks, the extraordinary cognitive load of being highly sensitive in a world not calibrated for sensitivity - these are the daily reality of millions of children and adults. If you recognize yourself in either of them, this book was written for you.

The prayer in Chapter Four is also real, in the sense that matters most: it is the kind of prayer that gets answered. Not always in the way you expect. Not always in the form you would have chosen from the available options. But answered.
