The Hindu Ruins in the Plain of Parambanan by J. Groneman explores the rich archaeological and cultural heritage of the Parambanan plain in Central Java, Indonesia. The work focuses on the grand Hindu temple complex of Prambanan, dedicated to the Trimurti — Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Groneman provides detailed descriptions of the architecture, iconography, and inscriptions found among the ruins. He examines the historical and religious significance of the temples, highlighting their artistic excellence and symbolic meaning within the context of Javanese Hinduism. The study underscores the importance of preserving these monumental structures as vital links to Indonesia's ancient past.

J. (Isaäc) Groneman (1832–1912) was a Dutch physician, scholar, and author known for his work in the Dutch East Indies, particularly Java. Born in Zutphen, he had a deep interest in Javanese culture, history, and archaeology. He is best known for his studies and writings on Borobudur, the famous Buddhist temple in Central Java. Groneman’s publications, including De Tjandi Boroboedoer op Midden-Java and Oudheidkundige aanteekeningen, contributed significantly to early Western understanding of Indonesian antiquities. He also wrote travel and cultural guides, blending scientific observation with colonial-era perspectives. His work remains a reference in historical and archaeological studies of Java.
