James Talboys Wheeler (1824–1897) was a British historian, bureaucrat, and scholar known for his extensive works on Indian history and colonial affairs. His notable contributions include The History of India series, covering periods from the Vedic era to the Mughal Empire. He also wrote Madras in the Olden Time, Early Travels in India, and Tales from Indian History. Wheeler's works reflect his expertise in ancient and modern Indian history, focusing on political, religious, and cultural developments. He also explored colonial governance and cotton cultivation in Madras, significantly impacting historical and economic scholarship during British rule in India.
