Teachers Guide for Holocaust: The World and the Jews

This text is also set apart in another way. Unlike many of the other books, it begins where the Holocaust itself began, with Kristallnacht. And it ends uniquely, where the Holocaust itself actually ended, with the aftermath of the Holocaust-a story seldom covered in other textbooks. The vast majority of the book deals with what happened in the historical period from 1939 to 1945. Of course, in order to understand this period and the great loss suffered by the Jewish people during the Holocaust, it is necessary to look back in time to the Middle Ages (and even before), and necessary also to speak briefly of events which have transpired since. But the bulk of the material is the raw evidence of the Holocaust itself.

Rabbi Seymour Rossel is the author of The Essential Jewish Stories, The Wise Folk of Chelm; The Torah: Portion-by-Portion, Bible Dreams; A Child's Bible, and many other books.

Rabbi Rossel is President of RCC, Inc. He served the North American Jewish Reform movement in several national positions: as Director of the URJ Press, Director of the URJ Department of Education, Director of the Commission on Reform Jewish Education, and Dean of the School of Education of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, NY. He was Rabbi of Congregation Jewish Community North of Spring, TX; Headmaster of the Solomon Schechter Academy of Dallas, TX; President of Rossel Books; Executive Vice President of Behrman House; and Director of Education for Temple Shalom of Dallas, TX, and Temple Beth El of Chappaqua, NY.

For many years, he sat on the national boards of the Jewish Book Council, the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education, and the National Association of Temple Educators (now the Association of Reform Jewish Educators). In 1988 and again in 1996, Rabbi Rossel was Chairperson of international conferences on Jewish education convened at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

As speaker, author, and editor, Rabbi Rossel is listed in Who's Who in the Eastern States, Contemporary Authors, and Who's Who in World Jewry.
