About The Book

The Human Farm examines the dark realities of human trafficking, exploitation and displacement faced by Adivasi girls in India. Centred on the relationship between a trafficked girl and her rescuer, the novel blends emotional depth, existential reflection, magical realism and the enduring power of love. It portrays the struggle for dignity, freedom and equality within a society shaped by poverty, violence and systemic oppression. Through its exploration of social, political and moral conflicts, the narrative exposes the injustices that enable exploitation to persist. At its core, the novel affirms that human dignity remains worth defending despite life's tragedies. Rich in insight and compassion, the story highlights resilience, empathy and the strength of the human spirit, while emphasising the universal right to identity, justice and a life of dignity for all.

About The Author

Varghese V Devasia is a former Professor and Dean at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, and Head of the TISS Tuljapur Campus. He also served as Professor and Principal at the MSS Institute of Social Work, Nagpur University. A Philosophy graduate from Sacred Heart College, Shenbaganur, he holds an MA in Social Work from TISS, Mumbai, an MA in Sociology from Shivaji University, Kolhapur and an LLB, MPhil and PhD from Nagpur University. Additionally, he earned a Diploma in Human Rights Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, and a Certificate of Achievement in Justice from Harvard University. He has published extensively on Criminology, Correctional Administration, Victimology, Human Rights, Social Justice and Participatory Research, with articles in national and international journals.
