A distinctive feature of The Kingdom of Heaven: A Devotional Commentary on the Discourses of Jesus in Matthew is a devotional approach to how a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven should live, the mission of disciples, what the Kingdom is like, who is the greatest in the Kingdom, and the signs of his return.

Instead of analyzing Christian theology, this book consists of passage-by-passage personal applications for daily life. Most illustrations are based on the recollections of actual people and events by the author or his friends and family.

Although this is not an academic commentary, notes include selected cultural information. Notes also include definitions of key Greek words from Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible. The Christian Standard Bible, a modern translation by evangelical scholars, is the primary translation. Features include a wealth of Bible cross references, and an index of all Bible references and section titles.
