THE MIRROR TURNS INWARD

A Practical Guide to Recognising Our Own Narcissistic Patterns, Building Real Empathy, and Creating Healthy Relationships

By Anicca Moxley-Wyles PGDip, MBACP - Person-Centred and Experiential Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Have you ever wondered if you might be the problem?

Most people never ask that question. You're asking it. That takes real courage.

If you've found yourself in a pattern of relationships that feel painful, one-sided, or repeatedly broken - and a quiet voice inside you is beginning to wonder whether some of that might be about you - this book was written for you.

The Mirror Turns Inward is not a book that shames you. It doesn't call you a monster, condemn you as irredeemable, or reduce you to a diagnosis. It is a warm, honest, and deeply practical guide written by an experienced psychotherapist and former nurse who understands that narcissistic traits are most often the result of pain - not malice - and that real, lasting change is possible for anyone willing to look inward.

What This Book Will Help You Do

  • Understand what narcissistic patterns actually are - and what they aren't
  • Recognise your own behaviours without collapsing into shame
  • Learn empathy as the practical, learnable skill it truly is
  • Apologise meaningfully, receive criticism without shutting down, and handle conflict without escalating
  • Let other people matter - fully, genuinely, and safely
  • Repair relationships you've damaged, and build new ones on honest ground
  • Create the conditions where love feels safe - for both of you

Inside the Book

Twelve chapters that guide you through the full arc of self-awareness and change:

Part One - Understanding

  • Realising It Might Be You (And Why That's Actually Brave)
  • What Narcissism Actually Is - and What It Isn't
  • Why Relationships Feel Like Threats Instead of Safe Places
  • The Validation Addiction

Part Two - Building Skills

  • Learning Empathy - Yes, It's a Skill
  • The Art of Apologising Without Defending Yourself
  • Handling Criticism Without Imploding
  • Letting Someone Matter As Much As You Do

Part Three - Doing the Work

  • When Your Ego Hijacks the Conversation
  • Building Real Intimacy
  • Repairing Relationships You've Hurt
  • Becoming the Version of Yourself People Feel Safe Loving

Each chapter includes reflection questions, practical exercises, a weekly challenge, and a growth checklist - making this a working guide, not just a reading experience.
