The Mysteries of Astrology, and the Wonders of Magic (1854) by Charles W. Roback is a self-published work that delves into the history and practices of astrology, necromancy, and various forms of divination. The book offers an extensive exploration of astrology's rise and progress, along with practical guidance on casting nativities, geomancy, chiromancy (palmistry), physiognomy (facial reading), and other mystical practices. Roback also includes anecdotes and narratives that illustrate the wonders of magic, witchcraft, and spiritual phenomena. The work reflects Roback's fascination with occult knowledge, blending historical insight with instructions for those interested in these esoteric arts.

Charles W. Roback (1811–1867), born Carl Johan Fallenius in Sweden, was a fraudulent astrologist, fortune teller, and patent medicine manufacturer in the United States. After fleeing Sweden in 1843 to escape fraud charges, he reinvented himself in America, adopting the name Dr. Charles W. Roback. He became known for his dubious medical cures and astrology services in cities like Baltimore, New York, and Boston. Roback was also involved in philanthropy, founding the New England Scandinavian Benevolent Relief Society. His success with patent medicines continued posthumously. Despite his criminal past, his influence in the 19th-century U.S. persisted until his death in 1867.
