Jon Eckert: Due to Eckert's teaching experience, research and policy background, and his position in a well-regarded teacher preparation program, he is uniquely suited to undertake this project. Eckert is currently an associate professor of education at Wheaton College. His research includes teaching effectiveness, teacher preparation, teacher evaluation, teacher leadership, and teacher compensation. He is a consultant with the Center for Teaching Quality, the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching, and the U.S. Department of Education. He is also a member of advisor to the American Institute of Research's Center for Great Teachers and Leaders. Each year, he spends approximately 80 days doing consulting work in public and private schools around teacher quality issues. The largest portion of his consulting work is with the Center for Teaching Quality and the outstanding teacher leaders who comprise their network. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, and others have funded his work. He presents papers at the annual conference of the American Educational Research Association in Division A and L, as well as the annual conference for the University Council on Educational Administration. Eckert has been a co-presenter and co-author with Corwin author, Mark Smylie. His publications include Capitol Hill white papers, peer-reviewed journal articles, and pieces for Education Week and Phi Delta Kappan. From 2008-2009, he served at the U.S. Department of Education where he worked in both the Bush and Obama administrations on teacher quality issues. Prior to the Fellowship, he was a public school teacher outside of Chicago and Nashville for 12 years. In May 2008, he earned a doctorate in education leadership, policy, and organizations from Vanderbilt University, Peabody College.
