Darby, Kenneth Y.: - Hello! I'm Young Darby: a father, widower, educator, veteran, writer, and student of Jesus Christ.I grew up in DC, the fourth of five siblings. My parents were, Mr. Moses Darby and Mrs. Bertha Darby.I attended Cook's Elementary in DC. But it was at Bundy Elem that I received my first football trophy.I dropped out of middle school to join the cool kids. Next thing you know I was working back-to-back dead-end jobs. I decided to attend the Job Corps for Auto Mechanics, but I really didn't want to be a mechanic. One Friday with students leaving with their weekend passes, I sat on the steps asking myself, "What do I Really want?" I answered: My own place, nice car, diploma, decent job, and wife. I pondered a path and concluded, I wanted to experience the full spectrum of life. I shouted, "Yes"! It was then I became grounded and decided to go back to school and get that piece of paper.I took that long walk home while processing my newly discovered path. The strange thing is that I felt I knew these answers all the time.The next week I enrolled in Spingarn Stay High. After two years I graduated on the honor roll, received that piece of paper, College Scholarship, and got accepted into the ROTC program. Did a few tours, came home and worked as a social worker, got that nice apartment, nice ride, and that dream wife. We had four beautiful children: Kofi, Gimra, Portia, and Kaleb. A few years later I made a down payment on a building and, "Boom!" founded, Moon Bounce and Cotton Candy Corner. A year later, AAA Mobile Notary. Two years later, The Mid Atlantic Housing Assistance Program and The KYD Multipurpose Center. Sarah owned and operated Nana's Day Care. My businesses hit autopilot; I accepted an offer at PGCPS as an educator which became an instant passion.I would have started writing sooner but my family took precedence over everything.
