John Oak is the pseudonym of a retired Two Star Portuguese Navy Admiral who worked for seven years as Adviser of the Portuguese National Security Authority, becoming an industrial security specialist, representing his country in high level international security meetings in NATO and the European Union. He was born in 1940, in Goa, a former Portuguese colony in the West coast of India where he spent his childhood. In Portugal, he attended the Military College, the Army Academy and the Naval Academy. A Lieutenant in 1961, he participated in counter insurgency operations in both Angola and Guinea, for five years. Specialised in NATO Communications, he directed communications infrastructures, commanded several warships, the Body of Cadets of the Naval Academy and the Marine Department of Macau, China, before attending the 1990 course of the Royal College of Defense Studies, in London. Then, he directed the Infrastructures Department of the Navy, commanded the Azores Maritime Zone and directed the IT Communications Division of the Armed Forces General Staff. Married, with two sons and three grandsons, he is an oil painter and wrote an autobiography.
