About The Author

Plato (circa 427–347 BCE) is a towering figure in Western philosophy, revered for his profound insights into ethics, politics, metaphysics and epistemology. Born into an aristocratic Athenian family, Plato was deeply influenced by his mentor Socrates, whose dialectical method and pursuit of truth left an indelible mark on his philosophical journey. After Socrates’ death, he travelled extensively, studying other renowned thinkers of the time. When he returned to Athens he founded the Academy, one of the earliest known institutions of higher learning in the Western world, where he nurtured a generation of influential philosophers, including Aristotle.

Plato’s philosophical corpus, primarily presented in dialogue form, explores a wide range of themes, from the nature of justice and the ideal state (as depicted in The Republic) to the nature of reality and the theory of forms.
