The Revenge Or A Match In Newgate is a novel written by Aphra Behn, first published in 1680. The story is set in London and follows the character of Oroonoko, a prince who is betrayed by his own people and sold into slavery. He falls in love with Imoinda, another slave, but their happiness is short-lived as Imoinda is also sold and Oroonoko is forced to marry another woman. The novel explores themes of love, betrayal, revenge, and the harsh realities of the slave trade. The title refers to the revenge plot that Oroonoko devises against those who have wronged him. The novel is notable for its portrayal of a strong, independent female character in the form of Imoinda and for its criticism of the slave trade, which was still in full force at the time of its publication.Well.
