Mohammed Helal was born and grew up in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh, before moving to Dhaka and earning an MA in English literature from Dhaka University. After working at an NPO in Toronto, he eventually joined the Canadian banking industry in 2000. He published his first piece of fiction, Death of a Taxi Driver, in 2013.
