The second deluge presents a sweeping vision of planetary catastrophe through the lens of science and morality, as Earth faces annihilation from a cosmic flood. At its center is Cosmo Vers l, a brilliant but reclusive scientist whose calculations reveal an impending collision with a nebula dense with water vapor. This revelation unleashes a torrent of existential questions about human progress, divine justice, and scientific foresight. The early chapters focus on the isolation and determination of Vers l, whose warnings fall on deaf ears in a society obsessed with comfort and skeptical of reason. Undeterred, he initiates the construction of an ark, invoking a modern parallel to ancient myth while wrestling with the ethical burden of deciding who will survive. The narrative amplifies this tension as it navigates the apathy of a populace and the politics of crisis. Through the rising waters and the arc of survival, the novel interrogates the fragility of civilization and the arrogance of ignoring natural forces. It is a story of redemption and condemnation, filtered through the rigorous mind of a man who embodies both salvation and judgment.

Serviss, Garrett Putman: - Garrett Putnam Serviss was born on March 24, 1851, in Sharon Springs, New York, to Garret Serviss and his wife. He developed an early interest in science and pursued his education at Cornell University, where he majored in science. Though he later earned a law degree from Columbia University, he did not enter the legal profession, choosing instead to pursue a career in writing and science communication. Serviss became well known as a popularizer of astronomy, using accessible language and imaginative illustrations to explain complex celestial phenomena to the general public. In addition to his nonfiction work, he wrote a number of early science fiction novels, including stories involving planetary travel, space exploration, and speculative scientific discoveries. These narratives combined scientific knowledge with creative vision, contributing to the emergence of American science fiction. His blend of educational rigor and narrative creativity set a precedent for later authors in the genre. Serviss passed away in Englewood, New Jersey, on May 25, 1929, at the age of 78, leaving behind one child, Garrett Serviss.
