The author’s demonstrations of the transformation of the letter into the other letters of the alphabet his production of the Mantric forms from the letter symbolizing their legends, his exposition of the coincidences of natural forms with the Pranava letter, and his quotations illustrating the mystio-philosophy underlying the Tamil forms and language seem to be original discoveries and are very interesting and instructive. It is therefore very probable that the letters of the Tamil alphabet were devised by a great Rishi on a definite philosophical plan. As a rule no new suggestion or discovery is accepted by the people without hesitation and so the author himself does not demand abrupt acceptance of his principles. This book puts forward the theory that the shape many Tamil alphabets are derived from hand gestures, from organs in the body, from the shape of the embryo, etc. To support his theory the author includes many illustrations to the effect. This book is a reprint of the 1917 edition.

P. V. Manickam Naicker was born in 1871 and died in 1931. He was an Indian-born author. He has 11 works in 23 publications in 2 languages and 99 library holdings to his credit. He is the author of books such as Tamil Alphabet and Its Mystic Aspects; Meyjñānattin̲Kolu virukkaiyil ajñānattin̲ val̲akkīṭu; Kampan̲ puḷukum Vālmīki vāymaiyum; and Betwixt ourselves' in the Madras Zoo: A lecture on sociology . 6th April 1922.
