A bittersweet celebration of the everlasting bond between a mother and child through the changing phases of their lives.

The thread between a mother and child starts to unwind when the child begins to walk, talk, and run. It stretches a little more on the first day of school. It swirls and unfurls the further the child gets from Mom's reach. One thing is constant -- that it always remains.

Emily Joof channeled her Gambian upbringing to pen this story, which was inspired by a local tradition of leaving a thread with the child when a parent travels.

Enayeh, Asma: - Asma Enayeh is a French Syrian illustrator who grew up in Damascus and currently lives in Dubai. She is a passionate children's books illustrator and surface designer. She is a daydreamer who is inspired by the colors and patterns around her. Her art is a celebration of humanity, cultures, and diversity. The places she's traveled to and the people she's met have had a big influence in her life and work. Asma first started illustrating books for her daughters, and she has since expanded her work for the world's eyes to hopefully enjoy and be inspired by.

Joof, Emily: - Emily Joof is a Gambian--Malian--French Swedish author. Her children's books showcase and celebrate multiculturalism and the West African Diaspora. Emily's inspiration to write started from one of her greatest fears realized -- her daughter saying that she didn't want to be brown anymore because she wanted to be like 'everyone else'. Because of this experience, Emily knows firsthand how powerful representation in books can be.
