The Vietnamese Australians: Culture, History, Entertainment, Food gives the readers an unforgettable insight into daily life and into the strong web of relationships that form the framework of one Vietnamese Australian family's story and their inherent strength. It documents for posterity what it was like to grow up during the wars and to leave our motherland in dangerous journeys to Australia. It presents a brief history of the Vietnamese Australians' culture, entertainment and food and the positive influences of the Vietnamese culture and customs on people in Australia over five decades. It recounts the events and persons that have featured in Minh Hien's and her parents' lives, illustrated with colourful photos. Readers will also gain knowledge of Vietnamese cultural symbols and the symbolic meanings of many Vietnamese New Year Tet dishes.

This book tells a heart-warming story of Minh Hien and her parents and their close associations. The book provides a brief history of Viet Nam and ample materials on Vietnamese culture, heritage, entertainments and food and the war in which the Australians became heavily involved. Also lighter topics of embroidery and dresses are covered with photographs of beautiful ao dai, the traditional costume for Vietnamese women. and the Vietnamese food, presented along with elucidation of their salient features, cultural symbols and their symbolic meanings.
