Islamic fundamentalism has become synonymous with global terrorism in the 21st century. Was it something coming that we failed to see, or was it a natural progression of a strong religious belief that knows no end? One of the most prestigious scholars of Asia, Niyaz Fatehpuri, saw it coming and warned the world more than 75 years ago even at the risk of threats to his life. His advice was forgotten and now we see his all of his predictions coming true. This book examines the writing of Niyaz Fatehpuri that suggest many ways to contain religious fundamentalism; these solutions are just as relevant today as they were almost a century ago. Niyaz Fatehpuri was born in India in 1884 and died in Pakistan in 1966. He was a recipient of the highest civil award in India for his contributions to Urdu literature and his magazine Nigar continues publishing since 1922. His writings are widely acclaimed worldwide and this book constitutes a Masters thesis at McGill University.

Juhi Shahin is a PhD candidate at the the Department of History, Tufts University, U.S.A. She also holds a Master's degree in Islamic Studies from McGill University, Canada. This book stems from her M.A. thesis, which was on the Dean's Honor List at McGill. She is interested in Islamic History, Islamic Law in the context of women, the social role of Islam in various Muslim countries, as well as Muslim intellectual and social history in South Asia. She also has a Master's degree in Islamic Studies from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Her undergraduate degree was in Journalism from the University of Delhi.
