Lydecker, Katie: - Katie Lydecker grew up in Southeastern Connecticut and was adamant that she would never settle outside a 2-hour radius from home. Life happened, and now she resides in the delightfully artsy Austin, TX, after a brief stint in the stunning Bay Area. She has spent the last 17 years teaching her husband that time is an unnecessary constraint, and in turn, she has absorbed his unfortunate sense of humor. Their home contains big (and loud) personalities: a 6-year-old who leaves both figurative and literal sparkles wherever she goes; a 3-year-old who is a sponge for knowledge and snuggles; a "chatty" double-doodle who self-employs as an extremely judgey backseat driver, and an exasperated cat who really just wants everyone to know that 5 PM is and always has been dinner time.

Swann, Betsy T.: - Betsy is a retired college writing specialist living with her husband and her crazy hound-Lab mix, Hershey Kiss, in Southeastern Connecticut. Archie was one of several dogs with big personalities that they have raised-and that have raised them-over the years, along with horses; cats; and a parrot that loved country music. Their unique traits have deepened her love of animals, of sharing their stories, and of telling about the many ways they help us to love, forgive, inspire, and understand ourselves and each other. This book is her retirement project, and she owes so much inspiration and life lessons to the many students at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut over a decades-long career. Her many students have taught her that, like the Archie you will meet in these pages, each of us brings unique gifts and our individual stories to the educational journey, from kindergarten classrooms and playgrounds all the way to college campuses. Betsy was honored to help the students at Mitchell find and use their gifts; they have certainly helped her find and use hers.
