The farther the phenomenon of Soviet civilization recedes into the past, the more clearly language emerges as one of its defining features. Through linguistic means, the political regime that created Russian Soviet civilization formulated and refined its ideology, shaped the consciousness of millions of people, altering their behavior and even the very philosophy of language itself. These highly complex processes, and their comprehensive and detailed study, are the subject of Y. P. Mador's book Words Are Athirst (Notes on the Vocabulary of the Soviet Language).

The book draws on extensive linguistic and historical material, comparative linguistics, and social psychology. It credibly demonstrates the need to recognize the state's language policy as a special method of manipulating large segments of the population. And, as is well known, "a correct diagnosis is half the cure."

Mador, Yuliy P.: - "Yuliy Petrovich Mador (born April 30, 1926) is a historian, PhD, and an expert in the history of the international labor movement and the geography of Africa. His research was focused on several key areas: the history of social and political philosophy, socio-economic history, and popular science. His PhD Candidate dissertation was devoted to the topic "The Rise of the Labor Movement in England in 1910-1913." His doctoral dissertation was written on "The Historical Evolution of the Strike and Its Forms in Bourgeois Society." Both academic works were later published as books.Having begun with the history of the labor movement, in his later articles the scholar analyzed the role of art in projects aimed at restructuring society, emerging as both a historian and a theorist of social processes. At the same time, he authored popular-geographical and educational works, for example the geographical essay "The Gold Coast" - about the distinctive features of Kuwait's historical development, its political and socio-economic condition, and the national traditions, customs, and culture of its people. In the 1990s, Y. P. Mador also published a collection of poems entitled "Reed," devoted to various aspects of human life and oriented toward a classical literary style. His broad education, scholarly and creative versatility, and deep, systematic study of social processes ultimately led Y. Mador to a comprehensive investigation of the influence of language on mass collective consciousness, resulting in a number of discoveries at the intersection of social psychology, linguistics, and history."
