Foreword
The Aztec Civilization

The Inner Child Press Poetry Posse is celebrating our 12th year of creating and inspiring with The Year of the Poet anthologies. This year we focus on cultures from around the world, both ancient and modern. The world is getting smaller and we all have lessons to learn from those around us.

Some of us have lived in the same country all our lives, as have generations and generations of our ancestors. We are strongly rooted in the place we call home.

Some of us have lived in and experienced several different countries and cultures. We are better than we would otherwise have been for living and learning about others.

Some of us are immigrants and live in a place where we were not born. We have left our homes for so many reasons and moved to a new place, a place where we can grow and contribute. We each continue to learn and create our home in the place we live.

Some of us are putting down roots in a new place, where years from now our children's children will feel rooted as they look back at us.

Some of us will move again, and perhaps again before we leave this world. We will continue to learn about new neighbors.

May each of us be welcomed at home. May we find value and a new perspective in the words of the Poetry Posse, people who live all over this amazing world. May we enjoy the fruits of our labor in the places we live. May we always feel safe and supported in our home and community. May we always be open to learning about our neighbors and their culture. May we always inspire kindness and peace with our words.
