Der folgende Bericht besteht aus drei Teilen: Der erste behandelt die von MILNE und MCCREA (Lit. -Verz. Nr. 45 und 52) entdeckten weitreichenden kosmologischen Moglichkeiten im Rahmen der klassischen Mechanik. Man darf vermuten, daB ein urn 40 Jahre friiheres Bekanntwerden der Rotverschiebungen in den Spek- tren der auBergalaktischen Nebel die meisten Entwicklungen des ersten Teiles schon damals hatte entstehen lassen. Ais aber die Ansatze zu diesen Vberlegungen zu verdorren schienen und an ihrer Stelle die Kosmologie der allgemeinen Relativitatstheorie in Wechselwirkung mit der Beobachtung trat, da glaubte man irrtumlich, die einzigartige Leistungsfahigkeit dieser Theorie an einem der klassischen Mechanik unzuganglichen Problem schlagend demonstriert zu haben. Urn der Gerechtigkeit willen verdient jetzt, nachdem im Felde der Kosmologie die weitgehende Gleichwertigkeit des alteren mit dem jungeren Lehr- gebaude erkannt ist, die "klassische" oder "dynamische" Kosmologie eine breite Darstellung. Zwar sind namlich die beiden grundlegenden Arbeiten von MILNE und MCCREA von diesen Autoren spater gelegent- lich erwahnt worden. Doch haben sie weder in Deutschland, wo die Polemik gegen die Relativitatstheorie eigen tlich eine gunstige Atmosphare hatte schaffen mussen, noch auch in anderen Landern Resonanz in weiteren Arbeiten gefunden. Mit der MILNEschen Erkenntnis ist ein betrachtlicher methodischer Gewinn verbunden. Denn wir wissen nun, daB man auch in der Dynamik von Sternsystemen durch Verwendung der relativistischen Mechanik neben mathematischen Komplikationen kaum ein vertieftes Verstandnis der Phanomene gewinnt, solange man normale und nicht extrem ausgeartete Falle zu betrachten wunscht.
