From the Back Cover

This book focuses on some English-speaking women philosophers who have been major actors since the 20th century in the field of practical philosophy, namely political and social philosophy, feminist approaches to philosophy, moral psychology, the theory of action and ethics. The book explores topics linked to the main aspects of the thought of those philosophers, i.e. Elizabeth Anscombe, Judith Butler, Philippa Foot, Nancy Fraser, Carol Gilligan and Martha Nussbaum. Six women French commentators have written a chapter on each of those women anglo-american philosophers, creating a dialogue as they think with them, elaborating their own positions in their respective fields.

Éléonore Le Jallé is Professor of Contemporary Philosophy at the University of Lille. She is specialized in anglo-american philosophy, both modern and contemporary. She currently works on the links between literature and philosophy, focusing on the moral psychology present in some Victorian novels (by Dickens or Trollope). She is the author of Hume et la philosophie contemporaine (Vrin: 2015), Les limites de la raison et les règles de justice (Hermann: 2017) and she co-edited Libéral, libéralité, libéralisme (Champion: 2018). She has published several papers on Martha Nussbaum, dicussing her views on the emotions and the moral relevance of literature.
Audrey Benoit is a former student of the École Normale Supérieure de Paris. She received her PhD in Philosophy from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in December 2016. She has served as a lecturer in philosophy at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and at the Université de Lille. She is currently teaching philosophy to students in "Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Écoles" (Lille). She has published several articles and a book, entitled Trouble dans la matière. Pour une épistémologie matérialiste du sexe (Éditions de la Sorbonne, 2019). Her research focuses on contemporary French political and social philosophy (Foucault, Althusser), feminist philosophy and Gender Studies (especially Butler).
