In this book Thorns of Destiny, Paige Carlson is a spoiled Daddy's girl. Her father told her when she was young that it was her destiny to have everything she wanted and that she would marry a rich man someday. Her love for fashion, gold jewelry and money proved that she would not settle for a middle class man. She meets Brody, the son of Angelica and Levi Briggs, an influential family that has a deep history of power, money and control in the area around Kalispell, MT. She loves Brody, and would sell her soul just to marry him. Levi does not like Paige, because of her protrusive and tenacious personality. She is obsessed with the family and tries to trap Brody into marrying her. Her plans to elope while on a trip to Lake Tahoe, fails and she loses the opportunity. Brody takes her on a special horse back ride to a hunting cabin that was transformed into a romantic getaway and proposes to marry her. On their way back, Brody has a tragic accident and she has to run back to the house to get help. While Brody is in the hospital, Paige receives a call, telling her that her father has died. He lost most of his money in the stock market crash which lead to a major heart attack and her inheritance is much less than she expects to get. Her step mother sells her childhood home and moves to Europe. She now feels all alone in the world with no one to turn to. Her plans to marry Brody are now on hold until he recovers or survives his accident. She wished that they could have married before this happened. Brody's recovery will determine her fate. If Brody does survive, she has plans to take full control over the family estate and wants to send Brody's parents to a nursing home someday. Levi suspects something is going on with Paige and hires a private detective to follow her. He finds out she is having an affair with another man while his son lies in the hospital in a coma. This other man has a criminal past and sees this as the perfect opportunity to offer her an incentive
