When people think of covered bridges in Kentucky an image of the Switzer Bridge comes to mind because of its prominence in the media after it was washed off its abutments in flooding in March of 1997 and its subsequent rebuild. However Franklin County once had many covered bridges within its borders. This book chronicles nine of those bridges, including the one still found in Switzer and the ornate bridge that once stood in downtown Frankfort on St. Clair Street. The Through Their Eyes series celebrates the photographers and artists of yesteryear who captured these structures in images preserving them for all time.

Melissa C. Jurgensen is a Kentucky historian and author. An extensive world traveler, she has maintained a lifelong interest in the history of communities in her home state. In 2006 Melissa received the commission of Kentucky Colonel, the highest honor in the Commonwealth, from the Governor. Melissa is currently writing a series of county-specific Kentucky covered bridge books with many unpublished photographs as well as travel photography books in the "Through Our Eyes" series with her mother, Judith. In addition to the books she has written, her writings have appeared in historical newsletters and newspapers around the country.
