La narrativa y las entrevistas tienen varios puntos de conexión: Cancún y sus alrededores, la zona maya, el Caribe con sus cielos, selvas y playas. Puede ser la historia de un lugar; pero también fragmentos en la vida de sujetos que coincidieron en algún punto. Estamos ante un texto no convencional, no lineal, que todo el tiempo remite a la "modernidad líquida" de la que hablaba el sociólogo Zygmunt Bauman (influencia importante para nuestro autor): territorio, en los tiempos modernos -o posmodernos-, inestable, siempre en flujo, de plasticidad otra en la que el cambio de "valores", costumbres e ideologías logra hacer que la alianza simbólica pierda terreno ante la "desafección" del otro viajero, llámese vecino, extranjero o amigo. Pero las entrevistas dejan ver todo lo contrario a frialdad y silencio. La escritura de Nieto Joly nos recuerda lo que alguna vez dijera Maurice Blanchot en La conversación infinita: "qué virtud concedida a la relación más simple: un hombre que habla y otro que escucha", en el devenir hacia un habla distinta. "Quien habla y quien acepta hablar junto a otro encuentra poco a poco las vías que harán de su habla la respuesta de su habla." Hay en esta obra, además de un diálogo asombroso, una constante crítica, indirecta casi siempre (por añadidura, podríamos decir), oblicua, al flujo semiótico de los mercados: al discurso del capital como aquello que lo corroe todo. Estamos ante un libro que nos habla, como en los sueños, sobre la configuración del espacio y sus imaginarios vivos.
