In this refreshingly honest spiritual memoir, geography teacher and orienteering enthusiast Robin Simson explores philosophy, scientific thought, theology, and environmental principles in a bid to explain how his passion for the natural world made him analyse long-held Christian ideals and find them wanting in the face of secular humanism, Gaia theory, and ethics.

Rob Simson studied at Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) before undertaking a successful professional career in geographical and outdoor education. He started orienteering in Queensland in 1975, and was the foundation member of the Toohey Forest Orienteering Club, in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. He has been committed to the sport ever since, contributing as a mapper, competitor, event official, and coach, and fostering a lifelong passion for landscape aesthetics and the environment.
