La tristeza y la baja autoestima son probablemente una de las mayores causas de depresión. Una vez que la persona cae en ella, no tiene ganas de hacer nada y pierde la alegría de vivir.

Mi propósito al escribir este libro es proponer ciertas ideas y consejos que nos permiten ver que cada situación en nuestra vida está perfectamente planeada y diseñada por Hashem únicamente para nuestro bien y que, aun cuando las cosas no parezcan buenas, son justo éstas las que van a sacar lo mejor de nosotros mismos.

Esta obra se divide en 15 capítulos y sugiero al lector que lea y absorba cada idea antes de pasar a la siguiente.

En perashat Ki Tetzé, el primer pasuk dice: "Cuando salgas a la guerra...", etc. El Or Hajayim Hakadosh, entre otros mefarshim, explica que esa guerra se refiere a que debemos llevar a cabo contra el Yétzer Hará. Y en este punto debemos explicar cómo el Yétzer Hará trabaja con nosotros: imaginemos que una persona quiere ir a un estadio y, para ello, ahorró dinero a fin de comprar el boleto de avión y la entrada al estadio.

Pero no tiene mucho para gastos personales en su destino, así que esta persona pregunta a alguien si sabe dónde puede comer en un lugar barato. Y este residente le dice que no se preocupe, pues él va a llevarlo a un lugar caro, porque le cae bien y él pagará.

El turista se impresiona mucho y, así, van a comer juntos. El turista pide carne, vino y otras cosas caras, al igual que el residente de aquel lugar. Al terminar la comida, éste dice al turista que olvidó su cartera en el coche, que va rápido por ella y vuelve a pagar. El turista le dice que sí, por supuesto, que lo espera. Sin embargo, no ve ni escucha que, cuando sale el residente, dice al mesero que quien está sentado en la mesa va a pagar la cuenta y se retira de ahí.

Lo mismo ocurre con el Yétzer Hará: nos dice que no nos preocupemos, que él paga.

En otras palabras, nos convence de que va a darnos satisfacción por ese pecado y que no nos preocupemos, porque él está cerca de Hashem, y cuando pecamos, el Yétzer Hará va corriendo a acusarnos. Por lo tanto, lo primero que debemos hacer es identificar el Yétzer Hará para poder luchar contra él y ganarle. Además, estaremos más felices cuando logremos la victoria contra ese gran enemigo.
