History and literature are closely related. Although it can present history without any exaggeration, the prejudices of novelists often prompt them to change the events of history according to narrative convenience. This deviation can compromise the authenticity of such literary pieces.
It is indeed difficult for writers to escape the influence of major historical events, and thus, many modern Indian English writers have presented such instances in their works. The partition of the country and its aftermath has attracted the attention of celebrated Indian writers such as Khushwant Singh, Manohar Malgonkar and Chaman Nahal. Treatment of History in Indian English Novels offers a comprehensive and careful account of the historical events furnished in selected works of these novelists, unravelling the intricacies of their storytelling and the profound treatment of history within their novels.

Dr. Vikas Sharma is currently working as Professor and Head of the Department of English, CCS University Meerut. He is a member of various editorial boards of peer-reviewed English journals.
