Drawing on many years of coaching and competing in triathlons, the authors highlight a series of "disasters" that they and their clients have experienced while racing. They recount dozens of amusing and enlightening stories about things that have gone wrong before, during, and after races, and they provide detailed, practical tips and guidance about how to avoid such disasters. Written for both seasoned and novice triathletes, the book should entertain while educating, and it should help athletes improve their race performances. Additionally, the book contains several clever cartoons that will generate smiles and help the stories come alive.

Paul N. Bloom and David K. Williams are USA Triathlon Certified Coaches with Triangle Multisport in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, a group founded in 2000 by Dave and his wife, Monette (see www.trianglemultisport.com). Both have numerous coaching certifications, with Dave having worked with hundreds of athletes at all levels, including many professional and elite competitors. Dave holds a master's in exercise physiology and an MBA, both from the University of North Carolina. He has also competed successfully himself as both an elite and age-group triathlete, with numerous podium finishes in races of all distances, including Ironman. Prior to moving into coaching a few years ago, Paul had an award-winning career as a business-school professor at three Universities (Maryland, North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke). He has an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He has competed successfully in age-group triathlon and duathlon competitions all over the world for more than a decade. Colleagues, but also rivals, Dave is the head coach of the UNC Triathlon Club, while Paul serves as assistant coach of the Duke Triathlon Club.
