About The Book

There are only two types of thorn mentioned in Holy Scripture; thorns that grow on bushes and the other kind-people. Tribute to a Thorn is about the latter. Tribute to a Thorn is a true story. The folk you will meet are real people, like the people where you worship. The book tells how prayer effected a phenomenal change to one Christian congregation. As the story unfolds, it gradually disproves the old adage, "You can tell a book by its cover." Prejudgments are reassessed, habits are evaluated and modified; in the midst of frustration and despair a troubled Church is renewed. Tribute singles out one woman whose public behavior and caustic tongue antagonizes most of her fellow worshippers, especially the "young preacher boy" intern assigned to her congregation. Covering little more than a year, it follows the day-to-day activity of the woman, the congregation, and the intern, revealing seemingly unrelated events that culminate when the young man discovers the source of his unimagined success. Tribute to a Thorn is a humble attempt to express the limitlessness of my gratitude for an encounter that changed my life and profoundly affected the fifty-five years of ministry that followed.

About The Author

Waitus Howard Starling is a septuagenarian with almost sixty year's experience as a Christian Minister. His Retirement from active service in the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists has move him into a new area of ministry-as a writer. He writes articles and short stories on Christian subjects, and life experience, and has completed numerous expositional works presently being readied for publication. Over the years, he served churches in other states, but he is a native of North Carolina. He and his wife, Joan, presently reside near Gibsonville, a little town situated in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina.
