Non-fiction Short Stories is a collection of autobiographical pieces by versatile author Anne Merkley. Written over a period of 20 years, these stories provide a chronological slice of life that allows the reader to understand the character's psychological make-up in terms of events from early childhood on. The stories deal openly and honestly with issues that are too readily swept under the rug or are left to fester as skeletons in the family closet.This book is illustrated with paintings from Anne's portfolio of work, confirming that she is a highly acclaimed visual artist as well as a writer.

I composed my first poem at age six, was typing and illustrating a novel at eight, won an essay contest in junior high, edited the high school literary magazine and formed a Literary Club, and received a $1,000 travel grant for creative writing from the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities when I graduated from college with a minor in English. Some of the stories in this collection were part of my winning portfolio. I've since taught creative writing classes in high school, art therapy settings, and Continuing Education programs. I judged Young Author's Contest entries and served as President of the Idaho Writers' League, also winning numerous awards in their annual competitions. Some of the stories in this collection were among those entries. I've had poetry and articles in a number of small press magazines, including Idaho State University's IOTA, ETHOS, and Rendezvous. I was among the poets in Famous Potatoes, and Idaho's Poetry: A Centennial Anthology, shared a Rare Beans chapbook with my daughter Krishna, and wrote and edited four historical works while serving as Project Director for Idaho Humanities Council grants. The excerpt "Existential Experience" was selected for presentation at an Idaho Suicide Prevention event. Since 2005 I've produced six books under Knight-Bond Publishing, including two illustrated volumes of my own poetry. In addition to editing, critiquing, proofreading, designing, and publishing books for other writers, I am currently turning a dozen scholarly papers that I researched while working on masters and doctoral degrees into a collection of essays. These will be released in the near future.
