Mit dem Tuberkulose-Jahrbuch 1957 iibergeben wir den 7. Band dieser Reihe der Offentlichkeit. Die vielfache Zustimmung aus dem In- und Ausland hat uns veranlaBt, den Aufbau und die Art des behandelten Stoffes im wesentlichen unverandert bei- zubehalten. Das Prinzip, nur offizielle Zahlenangaben zu verwenden, ist nicht durchbrochen worden, auch wenn mit Riicksicht darauf, das Jahrbuch besonders aktuell zu gestalten, die bei AbschluB des Manuskriptes vorliegenden zunachst noch vorlaufigen Zahlen des 1. Quartals 1958 verOffentlicht und analysiert wurden. Diese diirften auch wohl nur geringfiigige Anderungen erfahren. Die Bemiihungen des DZK um eine alters- und geschlechtsgegliederte Morbi- ditats-Statistik des gesamten Bundesgebietes sind bis jetzt erfolglos geblieben. Wahrscheinlich wird jedoch Baden-Wiirttemberg als letztes Land in Zukunft auch eine entsprechende Bestands-Statistik aufstellen, so daB vielleicht fUr das Tbk.-Jb. 1958 eine Bundesstatistik des Bestandes zur VerfUgung steht. Das DZK ist sich der Moglichkeiten und der Bedeutung der Statistik, und be- sonders der einer Morbiditats-Statistik, ebenso bewuBt wie der Grenzen, die deren Zuverlassigkeit und Exaktheit durch subjektive Faktoren gezogen sind. Wenn es sich trotzdem um eine sorgfaltige Analyse der Statistiken bemiiht, dann geschieht das, um mit der Tuberkulose in TuchfUhlung zu bleiben, ihren ungefahren Weg aufzuzeigen und im Rahmen des Moglichen die Erfolge der einen oder anderen BekampfungsmaBnahme darzulegen. Dies geht nicht ganz ohne Kritik; aber diese ist notwendig, wenn die Statistik der Tuberkulose-Morbiditat und -Mortalitat iiberhaupt einen Sinn haben und das Tuberkulose-Jahrbuch ein moglichst natur- getreues Bild der tatsachlichen Verhaltnisse geben solI.
