Die vorliegende Arbeit ist in der Absicht verfa t worden, auf dem Gebiete des Wasserturbinenbaues auf Fachgenossen und Studierende anregend zu wirken, wozu dem Unterzeichneten durch seine Tätigkeit als Ingenieur der Firma Th. Bell & Co. und später als Chefingenieur der Firma Escher, Wyss & Co., Zürich, während der Dauer von ca. 10 Jahren reichlich Stoff geboten war. Zu diesem Zwecke sind einerseits die Grundlagen der Berechnung vertieft und verschärft und neue Mittel zum Entwurf der Schaufelung gegeben worden - immer mit Rücksicht auf die praktische Verwen- dung -, andererseits eine Reihe neuer Konstruktionsformen aufgestellt worden. Unter anderem wurde die prinzipiell einfachste aller Turbinen, die Jonval-Turbine, in modernes Gewand gekleidet, um darzutun, da auch diese Turbine einer weiteren Entwickelung sehr wohl fähig gewesen wäre; das gleiche gilt auch von der Radialturbine mit Innenbeauf- schlagung und Drehschaufelregulierung, die als Einheit betrachtet, wohl durch keine andere Konstruktionsform an Einfachheit übertroffen werden kann. Um die Mannigfaltigkeit der Turbinengrö en trotz Veränderlichkeit von Wassermenge und Druckhöhe in geregelter Weise der praktischen Ausführung zu unterwerfen und damit zu bewirken, da die Modell- magazine nicht ins Ungemessene anwachsen, ist das Kapitel "Normal- typen" entstanden.
