Twentieth century American Literature is characterized by important movements in drama, poetry, fiction, and criticism that took shape in the years before, during, and after World War I. The eventful period following the war left its imprint on books of all kinds. An attempt has been made to select and analyze representative works of American writers for examining varied nuances of American Literature. Eliot, John Dos Passos, Arthur Miller, Toni Morrison, Lorraine Hansberry, Robert Frost, Neil Simon, Bertrand Malamud, Langston Hughes, Norman Mailer, Ayn Rand, and Thom Gun, which form the epicentre of discussion. A comprehensive study of literary genres of poetry, prose and drama reveals a complex interplay of ideas that go into the making of different ideologies related to American Literature of the twentieth century.
The book will provide wide reading to the students and teachers of American Literature and will also be useful for researchers in this field.

Rupali Saran Mirza is Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Integral University, Lucknow. She has submitted her Ph.D. thesis on the topic, “American Dream: Myth or Reality”. She is a staunch feminist, her feminist roots coming from Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), Delhi University, her alma mater. She is an alumna of St. Agnes’ Loreto Day School and La Martiniere Girls College, Lucknow. She has presented research papers at several national and international conferences and has many publications in international journals and anthologies. She has been cited internationally. Recently, her research paper was presented at the University of Michigan in the Arthur Miller Scholar’s Symposium. She is teaching Professional Communication to undergraduate students and English Literature to postgraduate students. Presently, she is editing two anthologies. She has edited a book, Feminist Voices Across Cultures: A Poetry Anthology. Her areas of interest are American Literature and Feminism.
