Das Buch behandelt die Hypothese, dass der richtig gelebte christliche Glaube positive Folgen hat. Der Autor hat dazu über 3000 einschlägige wissenschaftliche Aufsätze und Bücher näher analysiert und einzeln qualitativ bewertet (nachprüfbar in verschiedenen Dateien, verfügbar zum Download auf der Internetpräsenz horstfix.de), so dass die Ergebnisse einen verhältnismä ig gro en Grad an Gewissheit besitzen. Untersucht wurden fünf grö ere Bereiche: subjektives Wohlbefinden, Gesundheit/Sterblichkeit, Geburtenhäufigkeit, pro- und anti-soziale Einstellungen und Verhalten. Bei allen zeigt sich ein positiver, allerdings eher schwach ausgeprägter Zusammenhang des Glaubens mit Positivität, der mit einiger Sicherheit (so ergeben weitere Analysen, Beobachtungen und Folgerungen) kausal sein dürfte. Hier beginnt nun eine tiefere Analyse: es wird versucht, zu erklären, warum der Glaube eine schwache (manchmal auch keine oder eine negative) Wirkung hat. In Anlehnung an Max Weber werden die in idealtypischer Weise aufgefassten Konzepte von falscher Interpreta-tion (der für den Glauben ma geblichen Offenbarung), fehlender Balance (einzelner Glau-bensitems), Kontamination (Beeinflussung durch nicht gemessene Faktoren) und das kaum untersuchte Faktum der Erblichkeit von Verhalten beschrieben und in ihrem Nutzen für die Erklärung der Stärke des Zusammenhangs von Glaube und Positivität untersucht. Die sich dabei ergebende Erkenntnis ist (empirisch allerdings nicht so gut abgesichert wie der Zusammenhang an sich), dass der Glaube zwar positive Folgen hat, jedoch nicht (gleich stark) in jeder Form, sondern vor allem dann, wenn er der richtig gelebten (und richtig gemessenen), allerdings für den Gläubigen (so die christliche Offenbarung) prinzipiell nicht erreichbaren, idealen Form, die die Schwächen des Menschen (die Gläubige und Nichtgläubige gleicher-ma en beeinflussen) überwinden würde, soweit als möglich nahe kommt.
