Wir haben uns die Aufgabe gestellt, durch Beobachtung und durch zumutbare Auslegung einen Beitrag zur KUirung der morphologischen und biologischen Eigenschaften sowie der umstrittenen Eigenstandigkeit lymphoepithelialer Geschwiilste zu leisten. Vor mehr als 5 Jahrzehnten haben zwei dem Fortschritt der Human- medizin gewidmete Manner, der Pathologe Alexander SCHMINCKE (da- mals Munchen) und der Radiophysiologe Claude REGAUD (Paris) den Begriff "lymphoepitheliale Geschwulst" gepragt. Beide Wissenschaftler bezogen sich auf bestimmt-charakterisierbare Tumoren des Rachenrau- meso Offensichtlich stand dabei der Leitsatz von Johannes MULLER (1938) Pate: "Das Prinzip der Einteilung der Geschwiilste in Gruppen kann weder allein von der feinsten Struktur noch von der chemischen Beschaf- fenheit hergenommen werden". In Wort und Schrift hat uns Wilhelm DOERR immer wieder auf die Notwendigkeit der Betrachtung arztlicher und nicht-arztlicher Probleme in ihrer Gesamtheit, als Summe aller mog- lichen Teilfaktoren hingewiesen. Dies ist auch in seinen Publikationen und Vortragen uber lymphoepitheliale Geschwiilste klar zum Ausdruck gekommen (1955-1976), wenn er klinische, therapeutische, normal-histo- logische und histo-pathologische Aspekte fUr die These der Besonderheit der Lymphoepitheliome anfuhrt. Jedoch haben andersartige Betrachtungsweisen zu einer kategorischen Ablehnung der Eigenstandigkeit lymphoepithelialer Geschwiilste gefUhrt. So wurde der Boden bereitet, einerseits die Bezeichnung "Lymphoepithe- liom" im Rahmen von Publikationen der WHO als ungeeignet ("misno- mer") anzusehen (W AHI, 1971), andererseits aber auch heute noch der Auffassung von SCHMINCKE und REGAUD innerhalb der Kapitel gro13erer Lehrbucher zu folgen (z. B. DOERR, 1970 und 1974; V. ALBERTINI, 1974 und SEIFERT, 1974).
